SUMMARY:The Director of Marketing, Americas is the key marketing leader that defines and executes an integrated marketing and communications strategy to ensure consistency across all brand segments globally and customer experience touch points including; product, digital, social, in-store, online, print and video. Also responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, training, and managing all marketing functions to achieve company objectives for sales, growth, profitability and visibility while ensuring a position consistent with Element’s values. The Director of Marketing, Americas will report to the Global General Manager of Element.

Please note – this role is currently located in Irvine, CA but will be moving to Huntington Beach, CA by Spring 2019.


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist Global General Manager with the development of Element’s global brand position
  • Drive ROI by focusing resources on digital marketing and content
  • Energize brand in the core skateboarding market
  • Improve and increase the deliverables from our global athletes, restructure agreements to focus on digital (social and content) deliverables that elevate brand message
  • Increase brand awareness in wider lifestyle segments
  • Maintain an involvement and awareness of business and industry trends to ensure up to date marketing of all product
  • With regional teams, plan and develop marketing material to drive and support profitable revenue growth
  • Ensure integrity of the logo in all marketing and advertising activities, including input on global identity management
  • Lead and influence partners, creative agencies and internal teams to drive campaign creation and implementation
  • Work with product development and regional teams to create images and build marketing campaigns to ensure profitable marketing of product lines
  • Ensure the look and feel of the brand at retail is consistent and reflects the direction and core values associated with the seasonal ranges, athletes, events and history of the brand
  • Maintain and communicate a clear identity for the brand in each region, encompassing position within the market, customer profile, external image and product range
  • Develop and coordinate effective advertising and marketing strategies to ensure the achievement of company sales and profit budgets
  • Ensure the creation of campaigns that consistently convey the market positioning of the brand and reach the target customer base from planning to evaluation
  • Seek feedback from Regional Managers to develop marketing overlay campaigns
  • Plan and oversee execution of promotional and advertising activities including retail marketing
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of advertising material and activity in consultation with the Global Creative and Art Directors
  • Ensure all advertising activity complies with legal and ethical standards
  • Events, Athletes, Sponsors:
  • Create calendar of events and ensure events are executed within budget while meeting brand direction/strategy
  • Ensure risk is minimized at any company events
  • Ensure athlete management is consistent with Element brand direction
  • Drive the effectiveness of sponsorship investment, properties and campaigns ensuring they are aligned to brand attributes
  • Ensure agreements with athletes, sponsors and media align with the brand, are commercially viable and within budget
  • Work with regional marketing teams to highlight strategic opportunities for product promotion with sponsors athletes and events
  • Determine budget requirements in conjunction with the Global General Manager.
  • Manage promotional expenditure in line with individual campaign budgets as well as overall promotional budgets
  • Monitor performance of advertised lines and develop action plans where appropriate to positively influence sales results
  • Monitor and evaluate market trends and competitor activity
  • Work closely with the HR team to develop and implement people strategy to support achievement of objectives
  • Set objectives and KPI’s for the team to achieve strategic objectives
  • Provide coaching, recognition and manage performance to ensure the team is aware of opportunities for growth
  • Recruit, select, and induct direct reports
  • Identify likely successors to all senior positions and develop succession plans to ensure development of key staff members
  • Implement the performance management system and ensure communication about performance levels are continuous and that objectives are effectively cascaded to the whole team
  • Manage non-performance issues appropriately with reference to labor laws
  • Exemplify behaviors expected from the team and in line with company values
  • Ensure risk is minimized through effective communication and processes that cover key legislation and policy (e.g. H&S, Equal Opportunity, Anti-Discrimination, Whistleblower, Trade Practices)
  • Ensure the team’s adherence to legal and policy requirements (e.g. Workplace Health and Safety, Billabong policies, harassment and discrimination laws)
  • Other tasks may be assigned from time to time which contribute to the overall success of the company

Requirements:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing roles within a brand led business including strong social media, financial and commercial experience
  • Strong track record in leading a marketing team to drive business growth
  • Experience in developing innovative campaigns that meet goals and objectives of the business
  • Experience in sponsorship investments and campaigns ensuring they are aligned to brand attributes
  • Experience in establishing and building strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Experience in managing projects with multiple tasks and stakeholders
  • Experience and knowledge of the fashion / action sports industry is essential
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to coach and lead people and develop a strong team culture
  • Outstanding negotiation and influencing skills to deal effectively with a broad range of internal and external clients
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial acumen to access and analyze information and make sound decisions
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent planning skills and strong focus on measurement and results whilst maintaining overall company perspective
