This is a unique role for the brand where we’ve combined the Product Developer and Technical Designer postion into one role with a specific focus on our Sport category. This person will be responsible for managing the entire life cycle of the garment from tech pack handoff through fittings. The PD/TD is responsible to ensure product maintains design intent while meeting all company margin targets, quality standards and on time deliverables. The person will run the fittings, make pattern/spec adjustments, and communicate directly with the factories to ensure the best product is delivered. This person will partner with design, merchandising, and development teams.


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing assigned categories to ensure on time samples (product life cycle management) that meet design intent and brand quality standards
  • Daily communication with vendors to ensure all samples are accurate and received on time
  • Negotiate costs with vendors to ensure margin requirements are met at style and category level. Partner closely with sourcing team
  • Partner closely with design to engineer product to meet margin targets
  • Partner closely with design team and tech design team on all approvals related to product development
  • Manage to calendar to ensure all critical milestones are met (support peers across departments) to meet all deadline deliverables and ensure fully commercialized product prior to PO’s
  • Partner closely with production team on all production deliverables
  • Be the category expert – be knowledgeable of category status and manage all reporting for assigned categories
  • Work closely with design to translate the design sketch into a spec sheet. Prepare, maintain, and update spec sheets
  • Take the lead on Research and Development of new fabrics/construction techniques to support company initiatives of R&D and design team for assigned categories
  • Provide call-outs and critiques during the fittings to verify that all issues are identified
  • Fit garment on model and identify and make any necessary adjustments to pattern and/or specs to improve fit

Requirements:

  • Must have 5-7 years of experience as a sport/active technical designer and product developer
  • Must have experience in both mens and womens
  • Must have prior experience working with overseas suppliers
  • Must have prior experience working in a wholesale business model
  • Must have extensive experience in product construction/fabric construction/wash and print techniques/component level cost management and calendar adherence management
  • Must have experience leading fittings and making adjustments with spec sheets
  • Must be deadline driven and detail oriented
  • Must be able to multi task and work in fast paced environment
  • Must be proactive with a solution/result oriented attitude
  • Must have excellent communication and follow through skills
  • Must be PC & MAC computer literate in Applications – Adobe Illustrator, Word, Excel, PLM, Gerber or Lectra knowledge
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Must possess a keen eye to identify fit issues and recommend solutions
  • Must have a strong understanding of garment construction and fabric types for performance product in both mens and womens
