The Billabong family brands are looking a Senior UX Designer in the Global ECommerce team reporting to the Global UX Director.

The Billabong family brands is seeking a passionate, experienced, hands-on Senior UX Designer to work on our entire portfolio of sport action brands.  The User Experience and Interface Designer thinks in terms of the end-to-end user experience and is responsible for the design of GUIs that are visually appealing, have fluid navigation, efficient to use, and ultimately satisfying to the user, all while adhering to enterprise GUI standards, that fulfill the ECommerce business application requirements. The User Experience and Interface Designer position involves designing, prototyping and driving the implementation of screens and navigation for user interfaces, portals, and or rich client interfaces. The GUIs will range from touch screens to mouse and keyboard interactions. The platforms can range from Windows and Linux, Web applications, to mobile applications for handhelds, tablets, and smartphones. This individual must be someone who stays up-to-date with the most current UX/UI emerging technologies.

Our ideal candidate will have the proven ability to lead the successful design of enterprise level software applications from concept to completion. Your responsibilities will cover all aspects of the user experience and you will help redefine what’s cutting-edge for this segment of the market.  This role requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication.  This individual should be able to present experience design concepts  in collaboration with the brand teams, while providing sound reasoning and explanation for UX design decisions supported by industry research and best practices.


As a key team member in our UX group, you will be part of a team of UX professionals, working across the organization to provide the best possible experiences for external and internal customers. You will be expected to serve different roles and juggle several different projects at once.  Key tasks include user flows, wire frames, mock ups, and interactive prototypes. You will also be presenting projects to stakeholders as well as maintaining best practices and design libraries while implementing solutions using cutting edge technologies.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Guide development teams in creation of modern user interfaces with a focus on usability and intuitive, efficient user interaction
  • Translate customer needs into defined specifications and inspire the development teams to develop purpose-specific products
  • Develop and maintain interactive flow diagrams, wire frames, design mockups, usage scenarios, prototypes, specifications, navigation maps and other human factor documents and models
  • Define innovative user interfaces and interaction styles which result in efficient and ergonomic usability
  • Conduct user needs assessment and task analysis using appropriate techniques, e.g. interviewing, ethnography, contextual inquiry, work sampling and usage data analysis, etc.
  • Lead new user experience and interface designs through the full design and development cycle (including concepts, information architecture, visual design and interaction design)
  • Author new interfaces and modify existing interfaces to demonstrate new approaches and concepts
  • Promote GUI standards and consistency across all development teams
  • Collaborate closely with multi-functional teams of managers, product specialists, and development / software engineers to help assess product requirements, create UI models, generate user task and interaction flows, document screen designs, and define user-interface interaction details
  • Demonstrate ability to react and respond positively to changing requirements based on user feedback, usability tests and executive review
  • Establish a design pattern library to ensure consistency across all product solutions
  • Ensure product quality by applying usability techniques as well as other UX testing methods at various points in the development process
  • Lead and document UX focus groups
  • Create and presents multiple navigation models and variations on screen layouts to stakeholders
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant UX / UI design practices and methodologies
  • Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required
  • ● Design elegant digital experiences. Initiatives to include web sites, landing pages, mini-sites, apps, store digital experiences and other creative concepts that engage and educate.
  • Gather, distill and communicate requirements. Quickly assimilate into graceful and workable designs that always keep UX as part of the design
  • Produce assets required to communicate and guide development—site maps, wireframes and schematics, high-fidelity designs, etc.
  • Work closely with brand teams, web developers, content specialists and subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate requirements, timelines and deliverables with team members or external consultants to ensure initiatives are delivered as planned.
  • Guide UX standards, development and management to ensure UX design consistency across all projects and channels.
  • Present and communicate the creative vision and business thinking behind concepts in a coherent and inspiring manner. Be a user experience evangelist.
  • Help lead the creation of innovative, industry-leading user experiences and interactions across the Billabong family of brands.
  • Develop and contribute to heuristic evaluations, sitemaps, user flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
  • Co-develop a reusable, adaptable UX pattern library and style guide for use across our product suite to ensure consistency that will sustain an iterative optimization process and future growth while navigating evolving UI/UX trends
  • Design effort level scoping (LOE, MVP and proposals)
  • Research and stay abreast of user experience, user-centered design, and interaction design trends across platforms
  • Stay current with industry trends, standard processes, solutions, tools and technologies
  • Be an advocate for the user and have an innate ability to translate customer needs into scalable, effective UI design with a propensity towards simplification
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of personas, user stories, and usability studies
  • Communicate and present ideas, concepts and prototypes effectively with team members, internal and external customers
  • Mentor, motivate and inspire other UX designers, product managers, engineers and stakeholders
  • Ensure product UX design deliverables are completed on time and adhere to established design standards
  • Testing and UX design review to ensure proper implementation and filing bugs/issues to track problems/discrepancies
  • Work with a top-notch engineering and product teams to understand and respond to their design needs
  • Participate in SCRUM related events such as Sprint Planning, Retrospectives and Backlog Grooming
  • Ensure product quality by applying usability techniques as well as other UX testing methods at various points in the development process

Requirements:

  • Qualifications
  • A degree in design, user interface design, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, human factors, information architecture, computer science or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 plus years of experience in GUI application design with desktop and internet solutions.
  • 3 - 5 years relevant UX / UI design experience or demonstrated experience in UX/UI disciplines
  • Strong skills with wire framing and prototyping design tools (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, or other comparable HTML editors, as well as Illustrator, PowerPoint, and other tools) A minimum of 4 years' experience as a UX designer, information architect, visual designer, interaction designer, user interface designer, or similar role
  • Ability to quickly grasps complex workflows, and can simplify or improve a GUI workflow.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax with a sharp eye for detail and consistency
  • Experience working multiple devices across multiple screen sizes (mobile ,tablet, full screen)
  • Possess User-centered design perspective and understanding of related design methodologies
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping tools
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills while working within cross functional teams
  • Knowledge around usability testing
  • Must understand the back end implications of code
